US stakes success for Cotai Glory filly

Cotai Glory filly Spirit And Glory broke through at stakes level in impressive style on Tuesday, sailing down the outside to take the Virginia Oaks at Colonial Downs.

The Robert Falcone Jr-trained filly traveled well in the middle of the 14-horse pack and once unleashed by Irad Ortiz, swept down the outer to take command and win by over a length.

She becomes the third stakes winner from the first crop of Cotai Glory and one of 13 stakes performers overall.

Cotai Glory's first group of two-year-olds were highlighted by the runaway Group 2 Prix Robert Papin winner Atomic Glory. And he is enjoying another outstanding season this year as the sire of The Platinum Queen, a recent second against older horses in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes, Group 3 winner Bottle Of Bubbles and the Group 3-placed colt Glory Daze.

Spirit And Glory was bred by Dr Noel Cogan and Patrick Williams out of Supreme Spirit, a winning daughter of Invincible Spirit. The filly won at Dundalk in January for Michael Mulvany prior to shipping Stateside.
