The second crop of Starman were in strong demand during the first session of Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Sale on Monday.
Not only was he responsible for the session-topper, our homebred 525,000gns filly out of Emirates Queen who was bought by Amo Racing, but also a colt out of Deep Impression who was sold by his breeder Pier House Stud for 360,000gns to Justin Casse/Amo Racing. A filly consigned by Harry Dutfield also made 290,000gns to Amo Racing.
Speaking after signing for the 525,000gns filly, agent Alex Elliott said: “Kia has Flowerhead, who has been an overachiever considering what was paid for her [35,000gns at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale],” said Elliott. “I thought this was a spectacular filly. She’s one of the best bred Starmans around and he seems to be doing very well with his fillies.
“She’s an exceptional physical. The whole team were very fond of her, including Kevin. And if she does get a little bit of black-type, then what is she worth? There’s loads happening the family.”
He added: “We paid a lot of money for a filly last year out of a Dark Angel mare named Aylin [winner of the Gr.2 May Hill Stakes] and we’re hoping history will repeat itself.”
Kevin Philippart de Foy added: "She is my pick of the sale, from a very good dam line, she is a very easy going filly, very racy.
"Starman can do little wrong, he has had winners today. He looks like he is getting horses who will go on as three-year-olds, he is getting horses who have a bit of size and scope, hopefully they progress on. He has had a very strong start."
Meanwhile at Yarmouth, Starman fired in yet another impressive winner in Heddon Street, who ran out the four-length winner of his debut for Michael Bell and Mochael Buckley. Bred by Ciara Eglington out of Luvmedo, he was sold by us at last year's Goffs Orby Sale.
