Starman fired in another promising winner out of his first crop on Thursday as Sheikh Mohammed Obaid al Maktoum's Moonfall justified favouritism for George Boughey in the 6f novice at Newbury.

Traditionally a competitive event won in previous years by the likes of Expert Eye, Iberian and Anno Domini, Moonfall was always prominent under Billy Loughnane and showed a fine attitude to quicken clear of the second New Monarch for an easy two-length score.

Moonfall was one of the auction highlights of Starman's first crop, firstly when commanding €120,000 from Redpender Stud as a foal and then when resold to George Boughey as a yearling for 200,000gns. Bred by Empire Bloodstock Ltd, he is out of Lealas Daughter and therefore a half-brother to the classy Soprano.

Moonfall becomes the ninth first-crop for Starman; others include unbeaten G3 winner Lady Iman, the stakes-placed pair Green Sense and Moonage Daydream and Royal Ascot hopefuls Venetian Sun, Gold Digger, Bone Marra and Flowerhead.
