Spycatcher's rich vein of form continued on Saturday when the admirable gelding, a graduate of our breeze-up arm, ran out the easy winner of the Listed Wentworth Stakes at Doncaster.
Fresh off a win in the Group 3 Prix de Seine-et-Oise at Saint-Cloud, the seven-year-old powered clear for a near three-length score.
“That was brilliant," said trainer Karl Burke. "I just managed to watch it here in Germany and I was delighted. He’s a Group One horse on that ground, he absolutely ploughs through it.
“If we managed to get him into a Group One and it comes up that ground he’d run a big one somewhere next season.
“We were going to put him away after his last run, but with the ground the way it is and him bouncing out of that race so well, we said we’d roll the dice.”
Bought by John and Jake Warren from us on behalf of Highclere Thoroughbred Racing, the Vadamos gelding now boasts nine wins; his collection also includes the Group 3 Prix de Meautry, Group 3 Prix de Ris-Orangis and this season's Listed Cammidge Trophy. He was also beaten only a short head in the 2023 Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest.
Spycatcher was sold by us at the 2020 Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale (pictured below under Robson Aguiar).
