Starman's first-crop daughter Gold Digger - a Tally-Ho breezer - made the perfect start to her career on Wednesday when the impressive winner of her debut at Yarmouth.

The Richard Spencer-trained filly was sent off the 9/4 favourite and duly obliged, showing a fine turn of foot to quicken from the back of the field and win cosily under Jamie Spencer from Awaken. The pair pulled over four lengths clear of the third.

"Richard liked her," said Jamie Spencer. "The idea was to give her a nice education and she picked up really nicely. I was happy to follow them along, I was hoping she was on the fastest horse and proved to be so.

"I went to Ireland in March and rode eight or nine Starmans - they're all the same, fantastic temperaments, good minds and a stallion to be looking forward to."

Richard Spencer was looking ahead to Royal Ascot.

"I'd say she'll go to the Albany," he said. "We could go five or six on debut and I'll think we'll stick at the 6f."

Bred by Randolf Stevens, Gold Digger was part of our draft at this year's Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale when bought by her owner Phil Cunningham in conjunction with Highflyer Bloodstock. She is the first foal out of Beignet, a Canford Cliffs half-sister to Listed winner Fig Roll.

She becomes the fourth winner for Europe's leading first-crop sire Starman - others include our homebred Listed First Flier Stakes heroine Lady Iman and impressive Curragh debut scorer Green Sense.
