David Ward, who campaigned Starman to such good effect on the track with Ed Walker, appears to have an exciting daughter of his champion on his hands in Soul Love, who became the sixth first-crop stakes winner for her sire when successul in the Listed Chelmer Fillies' Stakes at Goodwood on Saturday.

Partnered by Pierre-Louis Jamin, the Karl Burke-trained filly made her move a furlong out and kept on well to deny Hollywood Treasure by three-quarters of a length.

Soul Love won her first two starts during the winter prior to an unsuccessful trip to France for the Prix Sigy. Saturday's win took her back on track while bringing her record to three wins from four starts.

David Ward bred Soul Love out of the Listed-placed Lambeth Walk, a Charm Spirit mare who has also produced the Group 3-placed Excellent Believe. It is the further family of Mohaather.

Soul Love's win came on the same day that Starman's son Into The Sky ran a good fourth in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket. Starman is well represented in the fillies' version on Sunday as the sire of Venetian Sun, last year's Group 1 Prix Morny winner, and The Prettiest Star, another high-class homebred for David Ward.
