Classy Mehmas 4yo Diego Ventura added further to his record on Sunday when the gutsy winner of the Group 3 Prix Quincey at Deauville for Wathnan Racing and Hamad Al Jehani.

The former Tally-Ho breezer stuck his head down to come out on top in a tight finish under Christophe Soumillon to land his fifth win and second at stakes level.

"I was lucky enough to win at Longchamp with this horse a little over a year ago," said Christophe Soumillon. "He performed in much the same way today. His action was more fluid and effortless—he wasn't leaning on the bit or getting heavy on the forehand. On a demanding track like today’s, being up with the leaders was ideal. He showed great courage in the closing stages, as he had to fend off several challenges."

Bred by Sean Ronan and Caroline Hanly, Diego Ventura was sold by us at the Tattersalls Ireland Breeze-Up Sale to Gavin Cromwell and Kevin Ross Bloodstock. He is a half-brother to a winner and out of the winning Kodiac mare Leoube.
