'Everything I've seen by him has been nice' - €100,000 filly for Good Guess

Good Guess was once again in demand at the Tattersalls Ireland September Sale this week, with first yearlings selling for up to €100,000.

The filly in question, a half-sister to Listed winner Maria Branwell bred by Rigsdale Stud out of out of the Teofilo mare Princess Pearl, was knocked down to Matt Houldsworth and trainer Jamie Insole.

"I just thought she was quality early two-year-old type of filly," said Matt Houldsworth. "I actually bought her half-sister Maria Branwell when she finished racing, and this filly reminds me a lot of her – she is strong, athletic, not the biggest but looks sharp and early."

He added: "She's for a relatively new client called Romy Sia, who is based in the Philippines. She is only the second horse I've bought him and goes to Jamie Insole. He is new to racing, wants to spend more time in Europe and hopefully watch some horses race."

Of Good Guess, he said: "Everything I've seen by him so far has been pretty nice, he's the most gorgeous-looking horse himself and he's standing, in my opinion, at the best farm in Ireland."

We also went to €80,000 for a Good Guess colt out of Fendi from Church View Stables while Craig Bryson paid €70,000 for a filly out of Northeast Moon from McCracken Farms.

It was also a good sale for Mehmas, notably as the sire of two six-figure lots; a colt out of Chinese Knot who was sold by The Forge Stables to Dan Astbury, Adrian Keatley and Phillipa Griffin for €130,000 and a colt out of She's Different who was sold by Beechlane Stables to SackvilleDonald and Hugo Palmer for €125,000.

Starman's progeny were led by a €145,000 filly out of Eshtora bought by J C Bloodstock from Monksland Stables and caught the eye of an array of trainers, including Karl Burke, Hugo Palmer, Harry Eustace and Joseph O'Brien. Kodiac's draft was headed by a €80,000 colt from Forenaghts Stud bought by Johnny Murtagh.
