Taking on older horses proved to be absolutely no problem for the exciting Kodiac filly Star Of Mystery, as the Godolphin homebred turned in a performance out of the top drawer to take the Group 2 Blue Point Sprint over 5f at Meydan on Friday.
Held up as usual, in this case by Mickael Barzalona, the three-year-old came with a sweeping run to fly past the accomplished 6yo Ponntos and win by almost two lengths. Tally-Ho graduate Tajalla (Kessaar) also ran a great race in third.
"We went a pretty fast gallop," said Barzalona. "I could squeeze wherever I wanted. I was travelling well enough. If I'd been in the other group, perhaps I could have been closer, but I was happy where I was - her turn of foot is a real weapon.
"A three-year-old filly against this quality of older horses, yes she showed class. She's still learning as well."
Star Of Mystery showed very smart form as a two-year-old for Charlie Appleby last season, notably when winning the Listed Empress Stakes at Newmarket by four lengths. The Godolphin homebred is out of the Listed-winning Shamardal mare Mistrusting and therefore bred on the same cross as Group winners Hello Youmzain, Gifted Master, Island Of Love and Umm Kulthum.
Kodiac stands for €35,000 in 2024.
