Magical Sunset leads home Kodiac Listed one-two

An outstanding day for Tally-Ho Stud stallions on Saturday was capped by Magical Sunset's victory for Amo Racing in the Listed Radley Stakes, in which the Richard Hannon-trained filly defeated Fully Wet to lead home a one-two for Kodiac.

The 83rd stakes winner Kodiac and third to emerge out of his current crop of 2yos after Pillow Talk and Zarinsk, Magical Sunset quickened through horses to take it up over a furlong out and power five lengths clear of the field. Fully Wet also stayed on from the back of the field to gain her first black-type for John and Thady Gosden.

It was the third win in five starts for Magical Sunset, who was bred by Alice Fitzgerald out of Fikrah. Peter and Ross Doyle went to €340,000 to secure Magical Sunset at last year's Goffs Orby Sale (pictured below as a yearling) and only last month, Fikrah was back in the news again at Goffs as dam of a Kodiac colt who sold for €575,000 - also to Peter and Ross Doyle.

“She’s a very good filly who deserved that," Richard Hannon told Racing TV. “She was one of the nicest looking yearlings I’d ever seen when I viewed her with Ross (Doyle) at Goffs.

“She’ll be in everything next year, and I hope there will be better to come.”

A good day for Kodiac also featured a highly creditable third place for El Bodegon against older horses in the Group 1 Cox Plate at Moonee Valley.
