Best of luck to everyone with their purchases out of this week's Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up. We were delighted to end the sale as leading vendor, and hope there's another top performer among them.

It was a good few days for Mehmas, whose colt out of Superiority was one of the highlights of Wednesday when bought by Richard Brown of Blandford Bloodstock for 550,000gns.

“It’s all about the breeze and he did an exceptional breeze," said Brown. "When I saw him the first time, I thought he was quite a nice colt. I ended up seeing him about three or four times and the more I saw him the more I liked him - the last time I thought he did a really cool show. He looks like he’s got a great temperament.

“The page works as well and obviously we’ve been very lucky in the past buying off Tally-Ho.

“He’s by a top sire who can get you a really early one. The plan would be to give him a short break and hopefully get to Royal Ascot. But there’s more to him than just that because he has a bit of scope as well.”

Brown also paid 300,000gns for our Mehmas filly out of Duchess Rose. In all, Mehmas returned an average of 266,857gns for 7 sold, making him the sale's leading sire.

Brown's other purchases included our Palace Pier colt out of champion Majmu who topped the first evening at 450,000gns.

Best of luck also to Jack Jones, Rebecca Dunlop, Ben Haslam, Jamie Piggott, Paul Harley, LT Racing and M&M Farms with their purchases out of our draft.

'We're big fans of the sire'

It was also a good week for Starman, who returned an average of 128,833gns. His representatives included a colt out of Aretha sold by Paddy Vaughan's Ballybush Stables to Richard and Peter Fahey for 240,000gns.

“We’re big fans of the sire," said Pete Fahey. "Obviously he’s already done very well but they look like they’ll progress as well."

Richard Ryan also went to 235,000gns for Norman Williamson's Starman colt out of Teeline.

“George is mad about the colt and we have already spoken at length about him,” said Ryan. “We have a good filly by Starman [Leading Dancer] with Karl Burke who won the Radley Stakes last year. We tried hard to buy some of the Starman yearlings last autumn, and they were in demand."
