New winner for Cotai Glory

Sophie's Star became the latest winner for successful young sire Cotai Glory with a gritty display in the 5f maiden at Thirsk on Saturday.

Fourth on debut, the Karl Burke-trained filly showed bright speed to cut out the early running and held on bravely to score from the Dubawi bluebood Cardiff. The pair pulled nearly three lengths clear of the third.

Sophie's Star was bred by co-owner Nick Bradley out of Overheard, a Lope De Vega relation to the high-class sprinters Tax Free and Inxile. She becomes the third winner from as many foals out of the mare.

Cotai Glory has made an excellent start with his first crop of two-year-olds, which also include impressive Newmarket winners Forca Brasil and Dig Two.

The son of Exceed And Excel stands for €5,000.
