An excellent weekend for Mehmas was capped on Sunday with the success of Power Under Me in the Listed Testimonial Stakes at the Curragh.
His win came 24 hours following that of Malavath in the Group 2 Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte and on the same card that Tartan Skirt broke her maiden in impressive fashion for Michael O’Callaghan.
The Ger Lyons-trained Power Under Me has kept good company since breaking his maiden on debut last autumn, with placings in the Phoenix Sprint and Minstrel Stakes to his name. On Sunday he was always prominent under Colin Keane and quickened clear for a wide-margin success. In the process, he handed his jockey a record-breaking 127th winner of the season.
He becomes the 16th stakes winner for Mehmas and was bred by Barbel Reiss out of the winning Arakan mare Oonagh.
Tally-Ho-bred Tartan Skirt created a very good impression when running away with the 6f maiden.
"She's a lovely filly and ran a lovely race first time out at Punchestown,“ said O’Callaghan. “She has plenty of pace but I can see her maybe getting seven furlongs for a Guineas trial next spring."
