A Friday evening Dundalk double capped another excellent week for our leading first-crop sire Starman.
Final Melody, bred by Emir Alkas, set the ball rolling with a deserved win in the opening 5f nursery for Natalia Lupini. Runner-up on her past three starts, the filly made all for an easy 3-length win.
Later in the evening, Tally-Ho breezer Sky Watch got off the mark in the mile maiden for Michael O'Callaghan. She was sold by us to current connections at this year's Goffs Breeze-Up Sale in Doncaster.
"She's a filly I like a lot, she's probably the best filly I've had all year," said O'Callaghan. "I've had to be patient with her. She was sick after the first day at the Curragh in what has turned out to be a very, very good maiden. She needed a break after that.
"She was only 75 per cent going to Galway and it was a lovely run. I was thinking of putting her away after that and, she was just so well after it, I said we would come here and try and get her maiden out of the way.
"She is a filly for a trial in the spring. She is well above average.
"She has talent and is naturally quick enough for seven (furlongs). She just has that bit of class and she saw it out well.
"She is still a filly that is quite immature physically and she will do well over the winter. She will go on her holidays now and will be ready for a trial in the spring."
Their wins followed hot on the heels of an impressive win by another Tally-Ho bred Starman colt Mr Noble at Newcastle on Thursday. Trained by Karl Burke for Julie Lloyd, Mr Noble was sold by us at last year's Tattersalls Somerville Sale to Will Edmeades.
Both Sky Watch and Mr Noble are out of Kodiac mares.
Their wins capped a week in which foals by Starman sold at Goffs for €225,000, €150,000, €125,000 etc and averaged almost €75,000.
Starman will stand for €40,000 in 2026.
