'She was cantering all over them' - Nunthorpe next for Starman's Lady Iman after easy Molecomb win

Lady Iman turned in another brilliant display at Goodwood on Wednesday when winning the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes to cap an excellent few days for Starman.

Starman was also represented last Thursday by the six-length Group 3 Tyros Stakes winner North Coast to enhance a brilliant star at stud that also includes the unbeaten Group 2 Duchess of Cambridge and Group 3 Albany Stakes winner Venetian Sun and Group 2 Prix Robert Papin winner Green Sense.

It all started, however, with our homebred Lady Iman. Trained by Ger Lyons, she won first time out at Dundalk before an equally easy win in the Listed First Flier Stakes at the Curragh. She later followed up in the Group 3 Blackbeard Fillies Sprint Stakes at Naas, in which she beat Green Sense to lead home a one-two for Starman.

On Wednesday, she was always travelling well under Ryan Moore and having taken it up over a furlong out, just had to be kept up to her work for a clear-cut win.

A crack against older horses in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York could now be on the agenda.

"From day one she's had a temperament to die for and my job has been to feed her and not get in her way," said Ger Lyons. "She has two-year-old written all over her and it looks like Roger will get his own way for the Nunthorpe and Ger will get his own way for the Breeders' Cup!"

Ryan Moore added: “Lady Iman has been held in high regard. She has shown very good form and is a very fast filly. She was cantering all over the back of them at the two and I ended up getting there too early, but I didn’t want to be taking her back and then something go wrong.

“She is a smart filly and it’s great to ride Ger a winner. She would be good enough for that race [Breeders’ Cup Turf Juvenile Sprint] if she got a good draw, and she’d be well able to win it. Obviously, if you go over there you need things to go in your favour as well.”

“We’re absolutely delighted,” said Tally-Ho’s Tony O’Callaghan. “We were hoping she’d do that, and I think Ryan [Moore] was quite impressed with her. Ger Lyons was very pleased with her too. She’s got an amazing temperament.

“It’s been magic and Lady Iman did wonders for Starman, absolute wonders," said O'Callaghan. "From the day she won at Dundalk, Starman took off. That was back in March and I promise you it couldn’t have worked out better. We’re extremely pleased with him. They all seem to have amazing temperaments, which is standing to him big time. We think there’s more to come. We’re absolutely delighted with him."

Lady Iman was bred by us out of the Kodiac mare Lady Aria, also the dam of current high-class three-year-old sprinter West Acre (by Mehmas).
