Starman 2yo Bone Marra made a remarkable start to his career on Tuesday when winning his debut at Wolverhampton.
The Ollie Sangster-trained youngster blew the start to the 5f contest the extent that he was at least five lengths adrift of the field heading into the bend. Given time to find his feet by Nicola Currie, however, he steadily crept into contention and produced an impressive change of gear to fly up the inner and win ears pricked by just under a length.
"That was lovely," said Nicola Currie. "We knew he was going to be raw but he's got a great mind on him. He was quite slowly away and he was learning on the job. Once we got latched on he travelled away. As they came back to him, the penny dropped and he's learnt and gone through them."
Owned by Pompey Ventures, Bone Marra was bred by Norelands Stud out of Pyrenean Queen, also dam of the classy Messidor.
Champion Sprinter Starman has made an excellent start to his stud career, with six first-crop winners led by Group 3 winner Lady Iman and the stakes-placed Green Sense.
