Godolphin's Wise Approach turned in a performance out of the top drawer to land the Listed Rose Bowl Stakes at Newbury on Friday and become the 43rd stakes winner for Mehmas.
Fresh off a good second to Charles Darwin in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot, the Tally-Ho-bred Wise Approach quickened from off the pace to score going away under William Buick. In the process, he became the third winner of the Rose Bowl by Mehmas after Method and Caturra.
"It was a nice performance," said William Buick. "He ran a good race at Ascot when he was on a different side to the winner. He was more comfortable today back at 6 furlongs and it was a nice smooth performance form a horse who is getting better.
"The Gimcrack has to come into consideration. I think he will devleop - he's a big, scopey horse who was obviously very natural from early on."
Wise Approach (pictured below as a yearling), who was the impressive winner of his debut at Ascot in May for Charlie Appleby, was bred by us out of Sagely and therefore is a half-brother to multiple Group 1 winner Perfect Power. He was sold by us at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Sale to Godolphin.
His win came on the same afternoon that another Tally-Ho-bred 2yo by Mehmas, Rogue Temptation broke her maiden for Ed Bethell at York. She was sold by us to Henry Lascelles on behalf of the Rogues Gallery at last year's Tattersalls December Yearling Sale.
