Kodiac's Pipsy turned in an impressive Stateside debut with a last-to-first win in the Grade 3 Soaring Softly Stakes at Belmont's The Big A on Sunday.
Bred by Noel Finegan, Pipsy won last year's Listed Legacy Stakes as a two-year-old for Patrick Cosgrove and Ger Lyons, after which she was sold for 700,000gns to Woodford Thoroughbreds.
Turned over to trainer William Walden, Pipsy made the perfect start to her American campaign on Sunday despite missing the break, flying from last to first under Flavien Prat for a cosy win over Kairyu.
"The horses were acting up around her and she got very anxious in the gate and broke in the air," said Flavien Prat. "So, we went to Plan B. I gave her a chance to see if she would get underneath me and she sure did. When I tipped her out, she made a great move."
Pipsy is out of Experte, a High Chaparral relation to champion Aquarelliste, and becomes the 97th stakes winner for Kodiac.
Her win capped another good weekend for Kodiac during which he was also represented by impressive Naas debut 2yo maiden winner One Smack Mac.
