Mehmas was represented by a second Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes winner in as many years as the Tally-Ho-bred Lusail backed up his win in the July Stakes to land Friday's edition at York.
Strongly fancied following his Newmarket performance, Lusail was always travelling comfortably under jockey Pat Dobbs and as in his previous successes to date, showed a tremendous attitude to run down the leaders and win going away.
Gis A Sub was second, narrowly ahead of Twilight Jet - a Tally-Ho breezer - in third.
Lusail was winning for the third time in four starts for the same Al Shaqab Racing - Richard Hannon partnership as his sire and his trainer is now looking forward to races such as the Dewhurst Stakes for the colt.
"He's very uncomplicated," he said. "He's a horse that hides away a bit at home.
"He's won this with a penalty, and that's a tough target to put that on a two-year-old. I think he's one for next year as well. He gets 7f so I see him as a Guineas horse for next year. He's in the Dewhurst as well. He's exciting."
Pat Dobbs was also understandably impressed. "He does everything right, there's not many out there like him," he said. "We went very quick and he travelled super. He's a horse that only does enough, he's got plenty left.
"He's got everything including great temperament, and he loves fast ground.
"He's very good. I didn't think I get there as quick as I did when I asked him and I was there half a furlong sooner than I want to be. He's very relaxed and still very babyish. He'll definitely train on, he has a bit of scope."
Lusail was purchased for 160,000gns by Charlie Gordon-Watson and Al Shaqab Racing out of our draft at Book 2 of last year's Tattersalls October Sale. He is the second foal out of the winning Diaminda, a half-sister to top sprinter Fayr Jag.
Diaminda has a yearling filly by Kodiac who is catalogued to Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Sale.
Mehmas was a record-breaking first-crop sire of 2020 and is continuing that hot run this season as the sire of 27 2yo winners, more than any other European sire. In addition to Lusail, his current 2yos include the unbeaten Group 3 winner Beauty Inspire, Listed winner Caturra and Weatherbys Super Sprint hero Gubbass.
Mehmas' first crop included last year's Gimcrack Stakes winner Minzaal.
