'I love the sire' - 93k average for Mehmas at Tatts Guineas Breeze-Up

Mehmas featured heavily at the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze-Up Sale in Newmarket on Thursday when supplying two of the top three lots.

Billy Jackson-Stops of J S Bloodstock and Opulence Thoroughbreds outbid Ross Doyle at 160,000gns for Eddie Linehan's colt out of Raincall while Richard Brown of Blandford Bloodstock signed at 150,000gns for Yeomanstown Stud's colt out of Camisole.

“He will go to Andrew Balding,” said Billy Jackson-Stops on his purchase. “He’s by the right sire and out of a mare by a good broodmare sire. He did a lovely breeze and he’s a really good type with a good attitude. We wanted to buy something that would be active this year and on that front, he was everything we wanted.”

Meanwhile, the colt out of Camisole heads to Richard Fahey on behalf of Sheikh Juma Dalmook al Maktoum.

“He did a very good breeze despite being very green and coming across the track with his ears pricked,” said Brown. “Watching it live I loved it, but he is going to have to sharpen his act up a bit as he was fairly babyish.

“I love the stallion – he is a very serious sire of two-year-olds. This horse looks a real two-year-old and as though he has the sire’s best attributes.”

With five sold, Mehmas ended the day as the second leading sire by average (with more than one sold) on a figure of 93,200gns.

Best of luck also to everyone who bought from our draft - Nick Bell/Ontoawinner, Middleham Park Racing, Kevin Ryan, John Ryan, Guillermo Arizkorreta, Megan Nicholls, Steph Hollinshead and Bursea Lodge Stud. We hope there's another Crypto Force or The Platinum Queen among them!
