Mehmas colt Line Of Departure trounces older rivals in Listed contest

Mehmas' terrific run continued on Sunday with the success of 3yo Line Of Departure against older horses in the Listed Cathedral Stakes at Salisbury.

Making his seasonal debut, Line Of Departure showed no signs of rustiness to shoot up a gap on the inner and quicken away impressively for a two-and-a-quarter length success over Khaadem.

Line Of Departure rattled off three successive wins for Roger Varian last year, culminating with a victory in the Weatherbys Racing Bank £200,000 2-y-o Stakes at Doncaster. The tough colt, who was bred by Cn Farm Ltd out of top producer Entreat and sold for £260,000 as a yearling to Oliver St Lawrence on behalf of H H Sheikh Nasser al Khalifa and Fawzi Nass, now boasts four wins.

Mehmas' first crop now contains 11 stakes winners including this year's scorers Going Global, one of the top turf fillies in California, Italian 2,000 Guineas hero Fayathaan, Classic Trial scorer Keeper Of Time and last week's Listed winners Magnanimous and Mehmento.

His record-breaking first crop also includes Group 1 winner Supremacy.
