Lusail looked a black-type horse in the making on Saturday with an easy penalty defying success for Richard Hannon and Al Shaqab Racing at Newmarket.
The son of Mehmas, bred and sold by Tally-Ho Stud, had made a good impression when winning his debut at York and on this occasion, only had to be pushed out hands and heels by Pat Dobbs to make it two wins from three starts.
"He came home well first time at York," Dobbs told Racing TV. "The last day the ground was too soft and he couldn't handle it but it's perfect ground today. I’d imagine [Glorious] Goodwood would be a target - there’ll be plenty of races for him there though I’m not sure which one he’ll go for."
One of 12 European 2yo winners this season by Mehmas, Lusail was purchased for 160,000gns by Charlie Gordon-Watson and Al Shaqab out of our draft at Book 2 of last year's Tattersalls October Sale. He is the second foal out of the winning Diaminda, a half-sister to top sprinter Fayr Jag.
