Successful weekend for Kessaar as Tajalla makes winning return

A successful return to racing for Tajalla at Hamilton Park was the highlight of a productive weekend for Kessaar.

Tally-Ho graduate Tajalla, bred by Michael Lyons and Michael McGlynn out of Armum, made a striking impression when scoring on debut as Kessaar’s first ever runner in a competitive 5f maiden during the 2022 Newmarket Craven meeting. The Roger Varian-trained colt had been off the track since then but defied that absence on Sunday to score in cosy fashion, despite having to switch round rivals whiling conceding weight.

The Racing Post was impressed, with the analysis saying: “This G1 Commonwealth Cup entry looks set to make up for lost time, deserving credit for getting up on the line having had to switch to get a run. There's definitely more to come.”

His win comes hot on the heels of that of Yacowlef in Saturday’s 7f three-year-old handicap at Newmarket. Another from the first crop of Kessaar and bred by Denis McDonnell out of Turkana Girl, Yacowlef ran down the favourite Striking Star to land his second race.
