Tally-Ho-bred Mehmas colt makes big impression at York

Lusail went into many notebooks on Thursday when the taking winner of the first 6f juvenile novice of the British season at York.

In the process, he became yet another two-year-old winner for the record-breaking Mehmas. Fittingly, he also represents the same connections - Al Shaqab Racing and Richard Hannon - that campaigned Mehmas on the track and was bred here by Tally-Ho Stud.

Lusail was slowly away but quickly made his way into contention and with plenty of momentum behind him, ran down the experienced Mattice to win going away by three-quarters of a length.

Lusail was purchased for 160,000gns by Charlie Gordon-Watson and Al Shaqab out of our draft at Book 2 of last year's Tattersalls October Sale. He is the second foal out of the winning Diaminda, a half-sister to top sprinter Fayr Jag.
