Tally-Ho breezer becomes 10th stakes winner for Mehmas

Another day, another stakes winner for Mehmas!

One day on from Magnanimous' win in the Listed Glencairn Stakes at Leopardstown and it was the turn of Mehmento to shine with an easy success for Archie Watson in the Listed Surrey Stakes at Epsom.

He becomes the 10th stakes winner for Mehmas, who was also represented earlier in the day by another 2yo debut winner in Down Royal scorer Sea Breezing.

Mehmento was bred at Tally-Ho Stud and breezed by us at last year's Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge Breeze-Up Sale. He joins a list of current stakes-winning Tally-Ho breezers that also includes Group 2 Yorkshire Cup hero Spanish Mission and Listed scorers Burgarita and Ad Infinitum. Another colt from this year's crop, Twilight Jet, is Royal Ascot-bound following an easy success earlier this week.

Mehmento was purchased by Blandford Bloodstock and races for Hamilton Racing XLVI and Racing.

Mehmento began his career with two facile wins at Southwell before running an excellent second in the Greenham Stakes at Newbury. He was disappointing on very soft ground in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains next time out but bounced back in excellent fashion on Friday with a near three-length score over Legal Attack.

"I was a bit worried about the [soft] ground as Adam McNamara felt he travelled well at Longchamp in the Guineas until he came to let him down and he didn’t pick up," Archie Watson told Racing TV. "So we thought it might not ideal but I’m glad we took our chance!

"He’s a big horse. That was the other thing - I wasn’t sure about the undulations but he’s gone and done it well and we’re delighted.

"I think he’s very versatile in terms of trip - I believe he can run anywhere from 6f to a mile. The Prix Jean Prat is the race for him but he’ll go to Ascot first, I’m sure. He’s in the Commonwealth Cup and Jersey Stakes and we'll make a decision nearer the time where to run."

Jockey Hollie Doyle was also impressed. She said: "He got through the ground absolutely fine. I got it easy it enough in front, he lengthened down the hill and quickened away nicely."

Mehmento is the best foal out of Invincible Me, by Invincible Spirit.
