Jill Brochard's homebred Skylight Brochard continued on his upward trajectory on Friday with a tough score in the Listed Prix Montenica at Chantilly to become the latest stakes winner for Mehmas.
The Tim Donworth-trained three-year-old engaged with pacesetter Action Point a long way out in the 6f contest and answered every call of jockey Cristian Demuro to run down that challenger and win cosily by a neck. It was another two lengths back to the third Havana Ball.
Skylight Brochard was winning for the third time in six starts, having previously scored on debut at Dieppe and then again at Deauville.
"He'd had a good first run of the year, I was very pleased with him and he'd come on from that," said Tim Donworth. "Since then, he's just improved. He did one piece of work in between those two races and I went 'we'll have some fun with him'. He's tough, very sound - I think we're going to have a very nice year with him.
"We may look at a race over 7f with him. I'd love to think that he's a horse we could travel abroad at the end of year. I think he can do a bit of everything because he won on bottomless ground at Dieppe and then he's won two on the Polytrack."
Skylight Brochard is a brother to the high-class The Covex Kid and out of Fonseca, a daughter of former Tally-Ho sire Red Clubs who is a half-sister to Group 1 performer Gabrial.
One of 53 stakes horses for Mehmas, he becomes his sire's 17th stakes winner.
