€500,000 Mehmas colt headlines successful Goffs Orby Sale

Led by a €500,000 colt sold to the Hong Kong Jockey Club, it was a great week for Mehmas at the Goffs Orby Sale.

Mehmas was represented by 25 yearlings who sold for an average of €114,680. In addition to the €500,000 colt, they included a filly out of Orchid Gardens from Lynn Lodge Stud who sold for €165,000 to Arthur Hoyeau, our filly out of Julia's Magic who sold for €160,000 to Stonestreet/Valmont and a trio of €150,000 youngsters - a filly out of Under Offer who was sold by Alice Fitzgerald to Johnny Murtagh/Eddie Linehan, a colt out Wittgenstein sold by Boherguy Stud to Robson Aguiar and a colt out of Angels Story sold by Church View Stables to Jamie McCalmont.

Offered by Kellsgrange Stud, the €500,000 colt provided a good return for his connections having cost 240,000gns as a foal. He was bred by Rossenarra Stud out of Heavenly River and is a brother to the top-class Quattroelle.

“He’s a lovely, balanced horse," said the Hong Kong Jockey Club's Mick Kinane. "His sister was a very good horse and if he’s as good he should be fine. Mehmas is only new on the horizon in Hong Kong, there is one there that I know of, so he’s still in his infancy over there.”

A successful sale for Kodiac also saw 18 representatives sell led by a €200,000 filly out of Big Boned sold by The Castlebridge Consignment to Sam Sangster.

Kodiac was also represented by fillies out of Bella De Medici and Compostela who sold for €180,000 and €170,000 to De Burgh Equine and MV Magnier.

With another successful week on the track behind him, Inns Of Court's select draft was highlighted by our colt out of Hanalei Memories who sold for €220,000 to Andrew Balding - a massive return on his fee.

Cotai Glory's sole representative, meanwhile, was our colt out of Star Of Kings who sold to Nick Bell and Peter Trainor for €135,000 - both have enjoyed plenty of success with Cotai Glory's progeny before.

Many thanks to everyone who supported our own draft at Orby Book 1. We were delighted to sell each of our 13 offered and we look forward to seeing them on the track!
